A global chemical manufacturing company with world-leading technology across several business sectors.

Their challenge

To determine the size, growth and prospects of the European market for specific types of electrical distribution equipment and the extent to which their polymer technology could be used for component fabrication.

The solution

The client had seen significant success for its encapsulant chemistry in North America and needed to determine the market opportunity in Europe. MBC agreed with the client a number of areas of investigation which included a review of growth prospects for the sector by country and type of equipment. The detailed research identified specific European manufacturers of the equipment in question, their potential or known use of materials and processes and forecast volumes for next 5 years. Competitive suppliers to the client were identified and a specific information capture and analysis tool was designed to provide active market estimates of chemical usage in the principal manufacturers and country locations.

The exercise was repeated in a further end-user market and in this instance, MBC successfully extended the study to develop a ‘market map’ which identified key agents and distributors across Europe, in addition to competitors enabling the client to identify well informed investment opportunities. The client used the information to form alliances to aid fast entry into specific markets.
